Overview

Be Informed is a mobile application that keeps you in the know. Stay safe in South Australia. We tap into the latest incidents, warnings and fire ban information feed from the CFS.

We will show you the status and location of important events such as:

• Burn offs
• Bushfires
• Animal rescues
• Vehicle accidents
• Gas leaks
• Fallen trees
• Floods
• Storms
• Bushfire “Safer Places” and “Last Resort Refuge” information

… and many more!

In addition to the incidents and warnings feed, Be Informed displays the CFS’s Fire Ban information for the State

• Each region in South Australia mapped out and listed
• Four-day fire ban forecast

You can use the fire ban and incident information to be prepared whenever you go travelling and camping in South Australia

The App also contains a feature that enables you to access current fuel price data from the SA Fuel Pricing Information Scheme^.

Data Sources

CFS Current Incidents and Firebans

The app displays information from the South Australian Country Fire Service Current Incidents RSS Feed; listed in Data.SA, the South Australian Government’s Open Data Portal, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs, with a disclaimer.

The information that the feed supplies includes:

• Current Incidents
• Current Warnings
• Current Fire Bans

Roadworks, Incidents, Road Closures

The app displays information from the Department for Infrastructure and Transport of South Australia; listed in Data.SA, the South Australian Government’s Open Data Portal, licenced under Creative Commons Attribution

The feed describes the location and type of the incident, the maximum delay caused and start and end dates. Also provided is location information about road closures and detours that are currently active in the metropolitan Adelaide area

Fuel Pricing Information

The app contains real-time fuel pricing provided under the South Australian Government Fuel Pricing Information Scheme.

This data is based on or contains data provided by the State of South Australia (Office of Consumer and Business Services 2021-2023). Copyright of the State of South Australia.

Privacy Policy

Be Informed does not handle personal or sensitive data - that is, we DO NOT collect personally identifiable information, financial and payment information, authentication information, phonebook or contact data, microphone and camera sensor data, and sensitive device data.

But, just to let you know, we do need access to your location data if you wish to use all the map functions; but this is not required to view the incidents and warnings, and your location is never shared from your device.

Be Informed uses Firebase for analytics and logs the default events:

• What your Country of location is
• What type of devices you use
• Which OS and version you use
• Which version of Be Informed you use
• Crash information

We do not use this information to identify anyone personally; it is just used to improve the application performance.
